AI’s Role in Increasing PE Patient Referrals for Advanced Therapies at Jamaica Hospital

The problem: Even in settings where a Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT) is available, a substantial percentage of pulmonary embolism patients in the traditional workflow are treated without the involvement of the PERT.

Zoran Lasic, MD, MBA, FACC, FSCAI, Director, Quality Improvement, Interventional Cardiology at Northwell Health and Director, Cardiac Cath Lab at Jamaica Hospital, was one of the medical researchers who examined the change in the volume of PE patients referred by the PERT for catheter-directed therapies, following the implementation of an Aidoc’s AI-powered PERT in the workflow.

The impact: After introduction, the annual volume of patients referred for interventional therapies rose by 68% compared to the period before the implementation of Aidoc PE AI. Dr. Lasic discussed these results and impact on clinician collaboration in a recent webinar.
